And rightfully so, due to her distinct and vivid storytelling abilities that take us through warm cinematic adventures. You might already have a favorite Sofia Coppola film, perhaps the luminous and elegant Marie Antoinette or her more recent romantic and riveting take on Priscilla. But you might be intrigued to know the films that have been in her mind as sources of inspiration. In The Mood For Love (2000)

In 1962, journalist Chow Mo-wan and his wife move into a Hong Kong apartment, but Chow’s spouse is often away on business. Before long, the lonely Chow makes the acquaintance of the alluring Su Li-zhen, whose own significant other also seems preoccupied with work. As the two friends realize their respective partners are cheating on them, they begin to fall for one another; however, neither wants to stoop to the level of the unfaithful spouses.

A Place in the Sun (1951)

While ascending the ranks of the company, George becomes romantically involved with co-worker Alice Tripp. However, when he is introduced to socialite Angela Vickers, he quickly falls for her, leading to a tragic love triangle.

The Piano (1993)

After a long voyage from Scotland, pianist Ada McGrath and her young daughter, Flora, are left with all their belongings, including a piano, on a beach in New Zealand. La Notte (1961)

Director Michelangelo Antonioni sets the mood in this critically acclaimed romantic Italian drama. Lost in America (1985)

After being snubbed at his advertising job, Los Angeles yuppie David Howard convinces his wife, Linda, to quit her job and join him on a cross-country road trip. But during a stop in Las Vegas, the couple loses their savings at a roulette wheel and begins to see that their idealized notion of the American experience is terribly misguided.

In this action adventure film directed by Akira Kurosawa, a samurai answers a village’s request for protection after he falls on hard times. But all is tested when 40 bandits attack the village causing a massive battle.

In 1929 New York, a war rages between two rival gangsters, Fat Sam and Dandy Dan. Meanwhile, an all-round nice guy, Bugsy Malone, falls for a singer at Fat Sam’s speakeasy. A gangster musical comedy brought to life by director Alan Parker in his directorial debut, loosely based on events in New York and Chicago during the Prohibition era.

Let The Right One In (2008)

A horror romance film directed by Tomas Alfredson. Oskar, a sensitive, bullied 12-year-old boy living with his mother in suburban Sweden, meets his new neighbor, the mysterious and moody Eli, they strike up a friendship. Initially reserved with each other, Oskar and Eli slowly form a close bond, but it soon becomes apparent that she is no ordinary young girl. Eventually, Eli shares her dark, macabre secret with Oskar, revealing her connection to a string of bloody local murders.

Cahit stumbles from bar to bar in Hamburg, Germany, lost in an alcoholic haze. The drunk Turkish immigrant crashes his car into a wall, which lands him in a mental institution. She proposes a deal to Cahit: She will cook and clean for him and they can see other people. Thus begins their strange romance. An unlikely film written and directed by Fatih Akın.

Breathless (1960)

An iconic French New Wave crime drama film written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard. Michel is a petty thug who considers himself a suave bad guy in the manner of Humphrey Bogart, but panics and impulsively kills a policeman while driving a stolen car. On the lam, he turns to his aspiring journalist girlfriend, Patricia, hiding out in her Paris apartment while he tries to pull together enough money to get the pair to Italy. But when Patricia learns that her boyfriend is being investigated for murder, she begins to question her loyalties.

The Savages (2007)

Wendy Savage, a struggling playwright, has little to do with her brother, Jon (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a college professor and author. Samantha pines for studly older boy Jake, but worries that her chastity will be a turnoff for the popular senior. Meanwhile, Samantha must constantly rebuff the affections of nerdy Ted, the only boy in the school, unfortunately, who seems to take an interest in her.

The White Ribbon (2009)

“I love ‘White Ribbon’ for its [black-and-white] photography; it felt so real to the period.”

A haunting mystery film written and directed by Michael Haneke. Using their social status and harsh punishments, a baron, a doctor and a pastor rule over a small German village. One day, the doctor falls off his horse after it trips over a wire strung between two trees. More pranks follow, seemingly without reason, all directed at the village’s upper class and growing increasingly more brutal with time. There are no suspects, but a local schoolteacher has his suspicions.

Lolita (1962)

With a screenplay penned by the author himself, Stanley Kubrick brings Vladimir Nabokov’s controversial tale of forbidden love to the screen. Humbert is a European professor who relocates to an American suburb, renting a room from lonely widow Charlotte. Humbert marries Charlotte, but only to nurture his obsession with her attractive teenage daughter, Lolita. After Charlotte’s sudden death, Humbert has Lolita all to himself. Or does he?

In this heartfelt film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, high school seniors and best friends, Sonny and Duane, live in a dying Texas town. “It was so weird and innovative the way they shot it and incorporated real people. I thought that movie should have gotten more recognition,”

In this otherworldly A24 film directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Scarlett Johansson, an extraterrestrial being drives around Scotland disguised as a human female, attempting to lure unsuspecting men into her van. Once there, she seduces and sends them into another dimension where they are nothing more than meat.

Fish Tank (2009)

In this British indie drama film written and directed by Andrea Arnold, Mia is a rebellious teenager on the verge of being kicked out of school. Sparks fly between Mia and Connor, Joanne’s new boyfriend, and he encourages Mia to pursue her interest in dance. As the boundaries of the relationships become blurred, Mia and Joanne compete for Connor’s affection.

And with that comes everyone wanting to know all kinds of details about Sabrina, like who is she dating, where’s the next tour, or what’s her MBTI. But today, we’re not talking about any of that! Across The Universe (2007)

In an Instagram Live, Sabrina revealed to fans that her all-time favorite movie is Across The Universe. In this romance musical, young British worker Jude (Jim Sturgess) sets sail for the United States in search of his father and ends up meeting carefree college student Max (Joe Anderson) and his lovely sister, Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), along with a cast of eccentric characters. As Jude and Lucy fall for each other, their relationship is threatened by the social upheaval that accompanies the Vietnam War.

Hook (1991)

Back in her Disney days, Sabrina revealed one of her favorite movies growing up was Hook! In this fantasy adventure film, lawyer Peter Banning (Robin Williams) returns to his magical origins as Peter Pan after his young children are abducted by his old nemesis, Capt. Hook (Dustin Hoffman). Peter must revisit a foggy past in which he abandoned Neverland for family life, leaving Tinkerbell (Julia Roberts) and the Lost Boys to fend for themselves. Given their bitterness toward Peter for growing up — and their allegiance to their new leader, Rufio — the old gang may not be happy to see him.

Deadpool (2016)

Sabrina actually loves superhero movies and one of her fav superheroes is Deadpool! Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

When chatting with Interview Magazine, Sabrina said this is one of her all-time favorites (right behind Across The Universe of course!) In this Tim Burton film, A young girl when she first visited magical Underland, Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) is now a teenager with no memory of the place — except in her dreams. Her life takes a turn for the unexpected when, at a garden party for her fiance and herself, she spots a certain white rabbit and tumbles down a hole after him. Reunited with her friends the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), the Cheshire Cat and others, Alice learns it is her destiny to end the Red Queen’s (Helena Bonham Carter) reign of terror.

Kick-Ass (2010)

Another one of her fav superheroes is heroine Hit-Girl from Kick-Ass. Using his love for comics as inspiration, teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) decides to reinvent himself as a superhero — despite a complete lack of special powers. Dave dons a costume, dubs himself “Kick-Ass,” and gets to work fighting crime. He joins forces with the father/daughter vigilante team of Big Daddy and Hit Girl, then befriends another fledgling crime-fighter called Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), but a scheming mobster soon puts their alliance to the test.

Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (1999)

Sabrina mentioned a few times while on Disney that Zenon was one of her favorite movies growing up. “I love Zenon because of the fashion, honestly, because it really just revamped fashion in that time.” Set in the future, Zenon (Kirsten Storms) is an inquisitive teenager living with her family on a space station when she finds herself involved with suspected dodgy dealing and ends up being sent to a strange place, Earth.

Spy Kids (2001)

Another one of her favorites growing up was none other than Spy Kids. And who doesn’t love this iconic movie? Two young kids become spies in attempt to save their parents, who are ex-spies, from an evil mastermind. Armed with a bag of high tech gadgets and out-of-this world transportation, Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni (Daryl Sabara) will bravely jet through the air, dive under the seas and crisscross the globe in a series of thrilling adventures on a mission to save their parents … and maybe even the world.

A Girly And Aesthetic Winter Movie Watch List.

The air outside is brisk and there is freshly-planted, crisp-white snow on the ground. Houses and trees alike are adorned in warm holiday lights but inside we sit on the couch under a fuzzy blanket and with a hot drink in a mug. All we need is a winter movie to end the night. Not exactly a holiday movie because that’s a separate blog post…here are simply nine cozy winter movies to appreciate the winter season.

New in Town (2009)

Lucy Hill, an ambitious executive, lives the high life in Miami. She loves climbing the corporate ladder as well as all the material goods that her success can buy. When she is offered a temporary assignment to restructure a factory in a backwater town, she eagerly accepts and anticipates a huge promotion in the pipeline. However, what Lucy gets is a life-changing experience and romance with the man of her dreams.
